Evelyn Giovine, a Ranney tenth grader, has recently been named a 2010-2011 TRT (Two River Theater) Metro Scholarship recipient.
The TRTC (Two River Theater Company) Metro Scholar program offers a unique opportunity for high school juniors to play a significant role in the life of Two River Theater Company. As one of a select group of students chosen for this highly competitive program, Giovine will receive two free subscriptions to see all of Two River’s 2010-2011 theater season. She will also take workshops in various aspects of professional theater, complete assistantships with TRTC artists and staff, as well as work with other creative students from throughout New Jersey.
Giovine has a wealth of theater experience both in and outside of the Ranney community. Recently, she was named a Runner Up in the 2010 ESU (English Speaking Union) Shakespeare Competition and in 2007, she received a Special Basie Award for her superb portrayal of Alice in “Alice in Wonderland.” She has also been active with the Stella Adler Studio of Acting where she has participated in their Summer Teen Conservatory and their Weekend Film Workshop.
At Ranney, Giovine is an active member of the Upper School Chorus, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, The International Thespian Society, and has also been a member of its Forensics Team since the sixth grade. Among her many Ranney theater credits are Cinderella in "Into the Woods", Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth", and Balthazar in "Romeo and Juliet", among others. In addition, she served as Assistant Director of this year’s production of "The Fantasticks".
Giovine realized as a seventh grader that she wanted to participate in the theater. She credits her brother Peter, a Ranney senior who has performed in numerous school productions, with spurring her interest in the arts. An accomplished singer and performer, Giovine is setting her sights on film and has just finished a film class at the Stella Adler Studio. "I really want to take a turn toward film but still continue my love of singing," she said. She hopes to continue her passion for the arts in college.
Giovine’s selection as a Metro Scholar marks the second year a Ranney student has been awarded this honor. In 2009, Danny Egan won a TRT Metro Scholarship.
