It was a beautiful spring day to be outdoors judging by the many Ranney Lower School students, parents and teachers who participated in this year’s Colors of the World Day on May 20. Everywhere you looked, Beginners through fifth grade students were enjoying a fun-filled day of exciting activities. Whether they were playing soccer, taking part in a karaoke sing-along, making crafts or having their face painted, the day included something for everyone.
Colors of the World Day is a culminating event for fourth quarter international festivities that take place each year in the Lower School, according to Patricia Marshall, Head of Lower School. Each grade level studies a region in the world and each homeroom is assigned a country. Students learn where their assigned country is located on the map, its flag, languages, foods, holidays and traditions. Parents are invited to help celebrate and set up stations with a special craft or activity from the region each grade level is exploring.
Picture perfect weather helped make the longstanding outdoor celebration even more exhilarating as fourth and fifth graders enjoyed mini soccer tournaments and championships wearing the colors of their countries, simulating the much anticipated World Cup tournament.
