During past summers, Ranney teachers have traveled to the far reaches of the globe to participate in unique professional development programs. This summer has been no different as members of the faculty have gained a wealth of knowledge during distinctive educational experiences, bringing back to Ranney the knowledge they have acquired about improving teaching practice and specific subjects as well as their observations of different cultures and traditions. Ultimately this knowledge benefits each and every student at Ranney School.
Thanks to the generous support of the RSPA, this summer Ranney teachers attended the Writing Institute at the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University; a Responsive Classroom workshop which trains teachers to become more sensitive, structured and effective advisors; a science program on Energy: Past, Present and Future at the Smithsonian Institute; the World History Summer Advanced Placement Institute at Rutgers University; and traveled to Ireland to study Irish music and dance. One teacher even pursued a doctoral residency in Music Education at Boston University. It is said that one should lead by example and our teachers certainly do that. Not only do Ranney teachers encourage lifelong learning, they practice what they preach.
You'll read much more about these individual professional development experiences as the school year progresses.
