In 2010, the Ranney Middle School Jr. Tri-M® Music Honor Society, Chapter 4410, was named First-Runner Up in the national Tri-M® Chapter of the Year Contest, sponsored by the National Association of Music Education (MENC). As a result, three Middle School students won scholarships of $200 each to continue their music studies during the summer months. Chloe Triolo ‘15, George Timmins, ‘15, and Mohnish Rachuru ‘15, were recipients of the scholarships based on their exemplary academic, musical, service and leadership contributions.
Chloe Triolo, who is the new President of Jr. Tri-M®, is a multi-talented musician who sings in the Middle School Chorus, plays flute in the Middle School Band, and performs in a variety of musical theatre extra-curricular activities. This summer, Chloe used her scholarship money to pursue yet another new instrument, the guitar.
Jr. Tri-M® Vice-President George Timmins, is a talented vocalist and musical theater actor. This past summer, he continued to develop his vocal abilities by taking private voice lessons and performing with a student choral group in Carnegie Hall.
This past summer, percussionist Mohnish Rachuru, Jr. Tri-M® Treasurer, used his scholarship funds to advance his skills on the drum set and is looking forward to bringing his new abilities to Ranney's Middle School Band this year.
Under the guidance of Mrs. Lillianne Torrente, advisor for Jr. Tri-M®, Chapter 4410 has won National Chapter of the Year (2009) and has twice been awarded First-Runner Up (2008, 2010). Upcoming chapter events include the Fifth Annual "Musical" Toys for Tots Campaign in December, 2010, and several student-centered events during Music in Our Schools Week, in March 2011.
