Lower School Students to Display Art at Evening Exhibition
Lower School students, grades two through five, will showcase their artwork during an evening art exhibition hosted in Panther Hall Gallery on Friday, May 6, 2011.
According to Head of the Lower School Patricia Marshall, exhibits that display work reminiscent of such famous artists as Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia O’Keeffe, and M.C. Escher are sure to provide a wonderful visual demonstration of student creativity and talent. “Mrs. Levine does a fantastic job instilling the joy and appreciation of art and its masters into the life of our students,” said Mrs. Marshall.
While the second grade class will display paintings of wildflowers inspired by Van Gogh and fourth grade students will present paintings that represent nature— as was typical of O’Keeffe – the Class of 2018 will exhibit tessellations similar to the optical illusions of Escher. In addition, third grade artists will show off abstract paper collages, and fourth and fifth graders will display digital art projects, which combine 21st century technology with 20th century pop art.
Last month, the artwork of several Lower School students including Liam Kennedy ’19, Jack Crilly ’19, Emily Sallustio ’18 and Blake Vastola ’18 was selected to appear in a 12-day exhibit sponsored by the Art Educators of New Jersey (AENJ) at the Middletown Arts Center. In recognition of their artistic talent, the group was honored with an official State of New Jersey Senate and General Assembly Award Citation on Sunday, March 27, 2011. Middle and Upper School honorees also included the following students: Max Chalnick ’17, Anjali Mann ’17, Paulina Braka ’15, Samantha Schaaff ’15, Sara Kleinman ’11, Charlotte Fleming ’11, Jacqueline Korey ’11, Julia Bontempo ’11, Thomas Hearne ’12 and Sophia Chrysanthou ’11.
The artwork of fifth grader Jared Cohen was also recognized as he was nominated to be an Artsonia “Artist of the Week” on March 26. Artsonia.com is an online children’s museum that receives thousands of pieces of artwork each day from K-12 schools around the world. Ranney was honored twice this year as fourth grader Jacob Field received an earlier nomination, and received a gift certificate and beautiful plaque for best in his age bracket.
