Sweet Music to Our Ears

Tri-M® Music Honor Society Announces Spring Concert
“Sounds of Spring!”
Tuesday, May 17, 2011
7:00 P.M.
RSPA Panther Hall

Please join Middle and Upper School Performing Arts students in celebrating "The Sounds of Spring!" on Tuesday, May 17, at 7:00 p.m. in RSPA Panther Hall. Ranney's Middle and Upper School Band, Chorus, and String ensembles will perform a delightful selection of classical music, Broadway and film tunes, contemporary hits and jazz standards.

The show’s entertainment represents a culmination of year-long music study and several months of training and rehearsal. Much of the music to be performed was chosen in preparation for national music festivals. For instance, the Middle School Band, Chorus, and Orchestra will take their performances to a “Music in the Parks Festival” at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown, Pennsylvania on May 20th. Meanwhile, many of the evening’s Upper School ensembles already performed at the “Heritage Music Festival” in Williamsburg, Virginia this past April, where the group earned silver and bronze medals.

Newly inducted members to the Jr. and Sr. Tri-M® Music Honor Societies will also be honored, with veteran members acting as emcees during the concert. Great music selections, along with a celebration of year-round awards, promise to make “The Sounds of Spring!” a Performing Arts highlight of the season.

Admission is free and the concert is open to the public. Refreshments will be served at intermission. The concert features the following ensembles:

• Middle School Chorus
• Middle School Concert Band
• Middle School Orchestra
• Ranney Chamber Players
• Upper School Chorus
• Upper School Women’s Ensemble
• Upper School Show Choir
• Upper School Jazz Band

Ranney Musicians Recognized at Recital
Congratulations to pianist Christopher Nivera ’17, who played beautifully in a Winners High Honors Recital at Westminster Choir College on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Chris, along with fellow-classmate Kevin Xia ’17 and 2,000 other pianists, auditioned for a New Jersey Music Teachers Association (NJMTA) Annual Piano Recital in the college’s Princeton Hall.

During the event, only 50 total musicians were awarded Honors or High Honors for their skill. While Kevin - who received a five years award after participating in the Golden Key Festival and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 6th -earned Honors, Chris earned High Honors and the opportunity to perform his recital on video. To view his performance, please click here. Congratulations to both!
