Foreign Language Students Recognized

In addition to an Upper School Honors Convocation Ceremony held on Thursday of last week, several Upper School students also received foreign language awards at a special Town Meeting on Tuesday, May 17, 2011.

While juniors Sophia Lee and Jonathan Rosenthal received bronze medals in Le Grand Concours — a National French Contest — seven students earned an honor certificate and 12 were granted certificates of accomplishment in the same contest.

Also on Tuesday, many students from Ranney attained national recognition for excellent performances during the 2011 National Spanish Examinations (NSE). As a result, members of the Upper School earned a total of three gold, six silver, and 12 bronze medals along with 15 honorable mentions. Gold medalist Lauren Harris ’12 also placed third from the state in her category. According to National Director of Exams Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, attaining a medal or honorable mention from the NSE is very prestigious. With 140,373 United States students participating in 2011, the NSE is the largest exam in the nation administered each year to students grades six through 12.

Congratulations to the following students recognized for exceptional talents in French or Spanish:
