Eighth grader Sophia Calve of Oceanport proudly represented her school and country at the fifth annual Children of the Americas Dressage Invitational in Concord, Massachusetts from August 2-6. A standout Ranney scholar-athlete, Sophia placed second amongst top Middle School dressage riders spanning eight countries around the globe.

Participants began the week with two days of training at Bear Spot Farm and finished the Invitational with a USDF and USEF rated show that offered the FEI Children’s Preliminary Test and a Children’s Freestyle competition. Riding her horse “Thor” in the B circuit division, Sophia managed to place fourth in dressage and second in freestyle, and ranked second overall. Despite a fine performance, she was unable to overcome rider Maggie Mann — also from the United States. Meanwhile, Sophia’s team, comprised of Daniela Carranza of Peru and Elaine Gudenus from Ecuador, placed sixth overall.

Congratulations Sophia!
