NHS Hosts 5th Annual Senior-Senior Prom

The Russell G. Ranney Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) hosted two Senior-Senior Proms at both Applewood Estates and the Kensington Court Assisted Living Facility beginning February 4 and concluding March 3, 2012.

Now Ranney’s fifth annual Senior-Senior Prom, approximately 27 Upper School students coordinated and attended a Valentine’s Day themed dance with nearly 150 residents at Applewood estates on the evening of Sunday, February 4. This night, which featured the Nocturnes — a 12-piece orchestra that plays big band music — saw students and seniors join together to have a good time.

After completing two dance lessons with teacher Stacy Goto prior to the event, Ranney students were able to show-off their swing dance skills on the floor. When not dancing or socializing with such residents as the grandparents of alumni Jamie ’99 and Jason Untermann ’02, attendees could also be found enjoying fine food.

In light of the month of March, the National Honor Society also hosted a Mardi Gras themed prom complete with purple, green and gold decorations at Kensington Court this past weekend. Overall, Ranney’s fifth annual Senior-Senior Prom proved a huge success and the NHS hopes to continue this tradition next year as well. “This multi-generational event is a heartwarming one,” said NHS advisor and Fine Arts Chair Kate Greenberg, who emphasized the importance of bringing joy into the lives of senior citizens stationed at care centers throughout the local community and beyond.
