Students Survive Blind Date with a Book

In an effort to introduce the growing minds of Upper and Middle School students to the likes of new authors and genres they may have otherwise never considered exploring, the Paulus Library hosted its “Blind Date with a Book” program just last month.

Beginning Valentine’s Day and culminating at the end of February, more than 110 students and faculty members had the opportunity to spread their literary wings during “Blind Date with a Book.” After picking a concealed book from the shelves of Ranney’s newly renovated library, students eagerly ripped open their packages to reveal what would be their blind date for two weeks.

While some wrote a review in the library’s online catalog as a means of discussing the book that they chose, approximately 30 other students attended a “Kiss and Tell” party on February 28. Here, students were able to share their blind date experiences and participate in interviews with others in a relaxed and comfortable setting. Much to the surprise of many Blind Date participants, all anonymous books chosen eventually grew on each reader; so much so that some admit they may one day revisit the shelves of their novel’s corresponding author.
