Students, Beginners through grade five, gathered in RSPA Panther Hall for three separate performances during the Lower School’s annual “Parent's Day” program on Friday, May 11, 2012.
While Ranney’s three Beginners classes took to the Roberts’ Stage for such traditional tunes as “Skidamarink” and “When Music Gets into My Feet,” members from the Early Childhood Center’s Pre-K wing used handmade recycled bottle maracas to grace the audience with performances of “I’m in the Mood” and “Life’s a Happy Song.” The Class of 2024 also showed off its instrumental skills during such songs as “Corner Grocery Store,” “I Met a Bear” and “Life is Good,” which included the use of maracas, drums, xylophones, egg shakers and sandblocks.
Following a classroom visit with their parents and family members, students comprising Ranney’s first and second grade classes next headed to Panther Hall, where they showcased their foreign language skills in Mandarin, French and Spanish during songs like “Rockin’ Frere Jacques” and “Bonjour, Mes Amis” meaning “Hello, My Friends.” In addition, the Class of 2022 performed several patriotic tunes including “America” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”
Also performing patriotic songs during the third assembly of the day were students within the third grade who sang “This Land is Your Land.” Accompanied by their fellow classmate Brooke Schmelz ’21 on piano, the boys and girls also highlighted their recorder skills with a performance of the song “Peace.” Other student accompanists present throughout the mini-concert were fourth grade students Christian Jackson and Olivia Emma, who played guitar and piano during the Mexican song entitled “De Colores” meaning “The Colors.” The Class of 2020 also sang the African-American spiritual song “Yonder Come Day” and the American folksong “This is My Country.”
Finally, closing out the Lower School’s “Parent’s Day” performances with the Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie song “We Are the World,” was Ranney’s fifth grade Class of 2019, which later invited family and friends to visit a part of the place it calls home — the fifth grade pod. Once there, parents received the opportunity to meet with teachers, view art projects done by their children and more.
Ranney would like to thank its music teachers Dot Lippart and Lisa Geene for their hard work in making each concert throughout the day such a success!
