A Magical Week for Ranney Summer Programs

Ranney School kicked off its 2012 Summer Programs on Monday, June 25, 2012. While several campers participated in off-campus trips throughout the week, others took part in fun-filled activities like arts and crafts, sports and music during a week that concluded with a magic show in the Commons on Friday, June 29.

For those members of Ranney’s Trip Camp who ventured off campus during week one of Ranney Summer Programs, stops along the way included the Bridgewater Sports Arena and Jenkinson’s Boardwalk. While the group participated in exciting activities like laser tag and ice skating in Bridgewater, it also went on amusement park rides and played boardwalk games in Point Pleasant. Trip Camp will spend week two traveling to iPlay America in Freehold, and visiting the Asbury Park Pinball Museum as well.

To finish out week one of meeting new friends and making fond memories at Ranney Summer Programs, campers attended a magic show in the Commons on Friday afternoon. The audience had a blast as “Steve the Magician” — with more than 20 years of performing experience — introduced several of his own friends, including Bunny the dove and Zipper the fly. In addition, magician Steve Rose invited both campers and counselors on to the Black Box Stage where they assisted in the completion of various tricks. This upcoming Friday, July 6, summer campers will participate in a Summer Programs Field Day consisting of track and field events on Ranney’s Guidone Track and Karagianakis Field.

Also spending week one of summer camp on the Karagianakis Field were members from Ranney’s boys’ lacrosse camp. The start of a series of sports camp sessions to be held throughout the summer, those boys interested in the game of lacrosse took to the Ranney's very own turf field where they learned fundamentals of lacrosse from varsity players Mackenzie Marcellino ’14 and Ian Farber ’15. In addition, those campers intrigued by tennis spent Monday through Friday learning the sport from Ranney’s varsity tennis coach Christel Contrera in the Kelly Tennis Center.
