Ranney School to Celebrate Homecoming Weekend

On Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6, the Ranney School campus will be bursting with school spirit as the Panthers, current and past, celebrate Fall Festival and Alumni Reunion weekend. The highlight of the weekend will be the dedication of the Walling Aquatics Center, in honor of beloved swim instructor and Director of Aquatics, Emmett Walling. For more than 32 years, Coach Walling has been a dedicated member of the Ranney community, committed to the education and development of every student he has taught. The weekend’s full schedule of events will help to kick off the school’s entrance to the Shore Conference, and commemorate Coach Walling and welcome back numerous Athletic Hall of Famers and graduates spanning the last 50 years.

On Friday, October 5, the school community, from Pre-K to seniors, faculty, administration and parents, will gather together for the annual Fall Panther Pep Rally at 1:00 p.m. The event will open with the dedication of the Walling Aquatics Center, followed by the introduction of the fall Varsity, JV, and Middle School teams. Closing the Pep Rally, students, faculty, and friends will compete in the Headmaster’s Fun Run races with Head of School Dr. Lawrence S. Sykoff, which will consist of five races that may be run or walked, with medals rewarded at the end for those who complete the course. The afternoon will conclude with the Varsity Boys’ Soccer Game, where the Panthers will face Roselle Catholic. The JV Tennis Team will also be in action, hosting Monmouth Regional, while the Middle School Boys’ Soccer team will face Seashore Academy.

Saturday, October 6 will prove to be one of the most active days on campus, including a full roster of home athletic competitions, the Parents’ Association’s Fall Festival, and the Alumni Reunion Dinner and Panther Athletics Hall of Fame that evening. The Ranney community is encouraged to wear their Ranney blue and white and cheer on the mighty Panthers as they take the field for some spirited competition. Varsity and Middle School teams will be in action on the home fields throughout the day, so everyone is encouraged to bring their school spirit and root for the home team!

Ranney’s Lower School students will start the day with RSPA's parent-powered Panther Cubs soccer and tennis sessions on the various fields around campus where participants can watch our future superstars in Kindergarten through fifth grade hone their skills on the soccer fields and tennis courts. RSPA has been busy all summer long preparing for Fall Festival, which will start at 2:00 p.m. on the campus grounds. This annual tradition is by far one of the largest community events held on campus, cementing the sense of community felt by families, alumni and friends. Held rain or shine, Fall Festival offers activities for children of all ages - crafts, horse and carriage rides, a petting zoo, balloonist, inflatables, carnival games and activities, delicious food, a DJ with "Ranney Idol" karaoke, pumpkin decorating, and even a haunted house. Parents are encouraged to bring their children's old clothing and help their family build their very own scarecrow that day! Additionally, to support our school’s culture of giving, the RSPA will host the annual food drive to support the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and a gently-used Halloween costume drive to support Family and Children’s Services.

On Saturday evening, Ranney will welcome home its alumni for the Annual Reunion Dinner and the Panther Athletics Hall of Fame inductions. Featuring the Alumni Art Show in the Panther Hall Gallery, alumni, past parents, faculty and friends will enjoy dinner and conversation before celebrating in RSPA Panther Hall. Nine former athletes and one coach will be inducted into the Panther Athletics Hall of Fame and the Class of 2002 will open their time capsule as 2012 marks their 10-year reunion. Guests will once again honor Mr. Emmett Walling for his devotion to the aquatics program at Ranney School and celebrate the dedication of the Walling Aquatics Center.
