RANNEY SCHOOL REOPENS: IMPORTANT BUS UPDATES

IMPORTANT UPDATE TO BUS SCHEDULE: NOVEMBER 7

Dear Ranney families,

Today, our students transitioned very well back to school. Transportation was exceptionally smooth and we are confident that the remainder of this week and next will continue to be positive and successful.

The outpouring of support from the community has been wonderful and truly heartwarming. We had almost 90% attendance at school! Thankfully, we have accounted for all families. Additionally, with the gracious support of the RSPA, we were able to relocate displaced families to new homes. The support of the community made this reopening of school a grand success, and we are forever grateful to all for their spirit of support and cooperation.

Please note that we have received confirmation that the following buses will be running on Wednesday November 7th:

  • T01, T07, T08, T12, T15, and T18 - First Student
  • CNR1, CNR2, CNr4, RA4 and RA19- Durham School Services

The following buses will not be running until the date listed:
  • RS1, RA2, - Durham - RS1 not running until Nov. 13, RA2 not running until Monday, Nov. 12
  • R3 - Seman Tov - Wall District closed until Monday, Nov. 12
  • RA7 - Seman Tov - Freehold Regional School District closed until Monday Nov. 12
  • RA9 - Seman Tov - Brielle, Manasquan, Sea Girt, Spring Lake closed until Monday Nov. 12
  • RA11 - Seman Tov - Rumson closed until Monday Nov. 12
  • RAN13 - Seman Tov - Shore Regional school district closed until Monday Nov. 12 and Long Branch
The only school district in question right now is Holmdel: bus RA14-Seman Tov; and RAN4-Durham.

Note that there is a possibility that your child's bus may not be running as our community continues to recover from Hurricane Sandy. All families should contact their school district to determine if it is open. If the school district is closed, the public buses will not run.

Please check our website for ongoing updates, and thank you again for your ongoing support.

With every good wish to all.

NOVEMBER 6th MESSAGE:

Dear Members of the Ranney Community,

Once again, I hope you are well and recovering from this severe storm. Our good wishes are with you and your family. This is a reminder that Ranney School will re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, November 6. Power has been fully restored, communication and food services are fully operating and local roadways in Tinton Falls are clear and safe for travel to campus, although some detours are still up.  Please be safe while traveling. We urge all members of our school community who are prepared to return to school this week to travel with caution.

Because some members of the community may not be ready to return tomorrow or for the remaining portion of this week, students are excused from tardies and will not be penalized at all if they are unable to return to school.  School dress code will be informal for the next few days as well, allowing our community time to settle back into school routines slowly.  Academic activities in the next several days will be slightly different. From special projects and activities to learning support to review sessions to helping organize community service activities to support the relief efforts, educational programming as we know it will be modified until all students are able to return safely. Please know, however, each division office will be calling all families of students who are absent to make sure they are safe and well and to offer support in transitioning back to school.   We will begin to use our teacher resource pages to communicate directly with parents. In short, the school will provide a safe haven for many students, allowing them to return to some sense of normalcy in a warm, supportive environment. Our food deliveries have arrived, and we are prepared to serve our usual hot meals, something that many of our students have been without in recent days. We also hope that parents will have some time to attend to many domestic and professional details while students are back in school.

Below are a few important details to assist our school community for a safe return to school.

1. Some bus service for our Ranney School families will resume tomorrow. However, many local communities may not be accessible for bus pick up. We encourage the families who use the public bus service to be in contact with their respective district or company to inform them of roadway obstructions that may impact bus routes. We also encourage families of bus riders to contact the assigned bus company to confirm if and when their bus company has resumed service. The contact information for these companies are listed below:

First Student 732-775-1441
Seman-Tov    732-493-8888
Durham Bus Company 732-577-1000, 732-897-8360 and 732-671-7200

Should you not want to use bus service at this time, please contact the bus company directly to cancel pick up and drop off and make sure you communicate this change to your child's division office.

2.The RSPA has developed a Help Center on campus for all members of our school community. The Help Center is located in the Margaret Mahon Building (the first Building on your right upon entering campus). The RSPA Help Center will be open starting tomorrow to service our community. The RSPA will have hot coffee, computers, and charging stations available for access to communication. The HELP center will also have extra uniform supplies, water supplies and blankets for anyone who needs them. Most importantly, the RSPA will be hosting the Help Center to gather our community in an effort to support recovery efforts for families and teachers as well as begin to develop service projects and outreach to Monmouth County communities who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

3. Parents who need a place to conduct business using a laptop are invited to join us in the Paulus Library Multi-media Center. Parents who need to be in touch with others may use this space during school hours.

4. Aftercare for Lower School families will be provided until 5:45pm. We ask that parents pick students up promptly so we can respect the 7:00pm curfew in place for Monmouth and Ocean counties and make sure all staff are sent home safely.

5. Parent conferences scheduled for Friday, November 9 have been cancelled. Each division office will communicate with our Ranney community about first quarter report card distribution, arranging for personalized conferences with children's teachers over the next several weeks. These conferences will be scheduled between teachers/advisors and parents to accommodate everyone's unique schedules.

6. The annual Halloween Spooktacular Parade is a special tradition at Ranney School and one that is anticipated by our students and their families each year. Because so many children could not have Halloween celebrations in their neighborhoods this year, Ranney School has rescheduled the parade for Monday, November 19th at 1:30 p.m. On this day, we will invite teachers, students and their families to wear their costumes and parade with us as a community. Thanksgiving celebrations and Grandparents' and Friends' Day will continue as scheduled on the school calendar (details will be posted in the coming days).

Finally, many teachers, parents and students have contacted the school to inquire about offering assistance and service to our school community and to the local community. Ranney School is working to partner with the RSPA to develop a service program that will involve all members of the community in supporting the appropriate local agencies that will be most effective in providing what the citizens of the Jersey Shore are so in-need of at this time. Additionally, we will be reaching out to the families most impacted by the storm to help them with housing, relocation, and needed supplies. It has been absolutely amazing to see how our students and parents have been offering assistance of all kinds to support our students, teachers, and families. Our outstanding teachers and staff have been eager to return to assist our students. Some of them are also out for a few days recovering with their families. We will be assisting each of them as well. The great Ranney spirit is showing its true colors.

Over the next few days, the division leadership teams and the faculty will be posting information in regards to rescheduling of special school events, field trips, and other events. . Should you need any special assistance or support during this time, please do not hesitate to contact me or a division head directly. We are here to help in any way possible.

We look forward to reuniting with our students, their families and faculty. Our good wishes are with you always.

Sincere regards,
