Kristine Rodriguez ’08 to Launch Collection at Fashion Week

Before graduating from Rhode Island School of Design with a concentration in Graphic Design in 2012, Kristine shifted gears in her senior year to investigate fiber as a medium for expressing her ideas. In the short two years since she graduated, she has relocated to San Diego, California and has launched a new textile business called Responsive Textiles. Her work focuses on knitwear and two of her collections entitled “The Female As A” and her “Lady Myth series,” which were part of Ranney School’s Alumni Art exhibitions in 2012 and 2013. Her “The Female As A” series was an exploration of the roles of women in contemporary society through dresses that played with the stereotypes about women. Her “Lady Myth Series” of scarves drew for inspiration upon women in mythology.

After going through a rigorous selection process including an application and interview, Kristine was chosen to go to Fashion Week in San Diego, October 2014, to launch her collection for the Spring/Summer 2015 season. She will be presenting her new collection entitled “To the Canyon and Down.” This collection narrates the story of the Grand Canyon in all its complexity and duality: the peacefulness of sunsets and quiet of the Canyon as opposed to the violence of stone that is carved into shape through the sheer force of water and wind.
