Ranney Students Receive Regional Art Awards

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards honor the nation’s most talented young artist and writers. This year, three Ranney juniors received awards for their works of art. A total of 1,653 creative teens in grades 7-12 submitted art work, representing 175 New Jersey towns and cities. The Gold Key Award was awarded to 219 individuals, 162 received the Silver Award and 213 students received Honorable Mention.

Ranney’s very own Caitlin Mullally (Red Bank) won the Silver Award in the competition for the state of New Jersey with her mixed media sculpture called “Body Armor” which was made out of paper, bicycle parts and paint. She also won second place in a competition held at Monmouth Reform Temple in Tinton Falls on Sunday, February 9 open to Monmouth and Ocean County juniors. Her mixed media drawing of a WWI soldier was her winning entry.

Kylie Medlin (Marlboro) received Honorable Mention for her cast sculpture of an arm and a leg with dried flowers in the Scholastic Art & Writing Competition and Maddie Acker (Colts Neck) also received an Honorable Mention for her ceramic “pop art” inspired sculpture of a popcorn box blowing over in the wind.

Congratulations to our Upper School artists on these wonderful accomplishments!
