Ranney Celebrates Newly Renovated Baseball Field

On Thursday, April 17, the Varsity Boys’ Baseball team took on Mater Dei High School on their newly renovated baseball field. Before the Panthers played ball, the entire team, along with Head of School Dr. John Griffith, acknowledged Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jacobson, parents of baseball captain Steven ’14, for their Annual Fund gift that made the team’s field of dreams possible.

Dr. Griffith thanked the Jacobsons for their support and asked them to join him on the pitcher’s mound, along with Steven and fellow captains John Mejia ’15 and John Weiland ’14. The captains presented the Jacobsons with a signed baseball from the entire team before Mr. Jacobson threw out the ceremonial first pitch to catcher Steven Ansell ’17.

Over the past few months, the baseball field received new fencing, wind screens and a new bench. Other improvements included more than four tons of new clay to upgrade the infield, a repaired baseline, strengthened pitcher’s mound, an enhanced batting area, new tarps for protection and the replacement of shale rock with sod.

“We are so grateful to the Jacobson Family for their special gift to the Annual Fund which provided the renovation to our baseball field and gave us additional resources to acquire new equipment for our team,” said Director of Development Lynn Lucarelli. “We are looking forward to our spring season of baseball and much success on our newly refurbished field!”
