Capstone Projects Highlight Year-Long Research

A program begun in 2007, Capstone allows seniors the opportunity to conduct a year-long investigation into a topic of their own choosing that culminates in a written and public presentation of their findings. Capstone Projects offer students the opportunity to demonstrate their achievements and goals, by providing a summative experience that demonstrates the knowledge and skills they have acquired and serves as a “launching pad” for what lies before them in college. Student participation in the project is “super-curricular,” and it calls for students to engage the habits of mind that they have acquired in every course they have taken throughout the Upper School, no matter what department or discipline. This week, 22 seniors presented their final projects to the Upper School. Here, we highlight just a few projects with insight from the seniors to share what the Capstone presentation experience is all about.
