Middle and Upper School Literary Mags Achieve High Honors

In a great kickoff to the 2014-15 school year, Ranney’s Middle and Upper School literary magazines have earned national awards once again.

RSVP Magazine, produced by Upper School students to showcase their original writing and art, has received a First Place Award from the American Scholastic Press Association for its 2013-14 edition. In addition, senior Mohnish Rachuru of Point Pleasant Beach earned an Outstanding Art Award for his piece titled “Mask.” View a video of Mohnish speaking about his AP Studio Art work last spring.

The MAG, Ranney’s Middle School literary magazine, has earned a First Place with Special Merit Award from the American Scholastic Press Association for its 2013-2014 editions. In addition, Volume 1 of the 2013-2014 MAG was recognized for the “Best Theme Nationwide.”

In addition, the 2014 edition of Taxi (Issue 5), the Upper School’s World Language Student Literary Magazine, won a First Place Award from the American Scholastic Press Association. (Update: The members of Taxi magazine also received a Silver Medal from Columbia Scholastic Press Association in December 2014 for the literary magazine in their first year of entering the contest [Fall 2014] for its Issue 5).
 
The Upper School student newspaper, The Torch, advised by English Department Chair Doug Felter, won a First Place Award from the American Scholastic Press Association in 2011-2012.
