Homecoming Weekend Energizes School Spirit

Ranney School's Homecoming 2014 weekend kicked off Thursday, October 16, with Upper School Coffee House performances in the renovated Theatre in the Commons. On Friday, an afternoon school-wide pep rally led by Student Council President Elizabeth Roberts '15 and Athletic Director Bobby Malone filled the campus with school spirit. The rally included performances by the pep band, led by Mr. John Propper, student spirit leaders and the introduction of a new fight song written by senior Erik Bovino.

On Friday evening, the campus came alive with school's first night game and tailgate, featuring the Boys' Varsity Soccer team against Keyport High School. Ranney won the game 3-2 and was cheered on by nearly 500 students, families and teachers filling the grandstands and lining the fence. That night's special student performances included a half-time song by Senior Jacquie Lee ("House of the Rising Sun") and the game's opening Star Spangled Banner sung by Ninth-Grader Carmine Mastrokostas. The RSPA concession stand made its debut Friday night as well with tasty snacks and treats for Panther fans.

Saturday activities included the annual Fall Festival, Alumni Art Exhibition and Alumni Reunion/Hall of Fame Inductions. Nearly 200 alums and Ranney community members attended the night's ceremony, which included the induction of Ranney's Second Head of School into the Distinguished Faculty Hall of Fame. Mrs. Margaret Mahon received two standing ovations from the audience!

Hundreds of families also enjoyed the day-time festival, which included games, crafts, bouncy houses, the Ranney idol stage, a pumpkin decorating contest and student-led Haunted House, robotics and karate demos, athletic games and a BBQ lunch.
