Annual Fashion Show & Auction Bring Community Together

More than 230 students, faculty, parents, grandparents and friends came to watch the annual runway show, shop the vendor tables and participate in the chance auction.
The Ranney School Parents’ Association (RSPA) held its annual Rock & Shop the Runway event on December 7 at The Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury. More than 230 students, faculty, parents, grandparents and friends came to watch the runway show, shop the vendor tables and participate in the chance auction. Several past parents and former teachers as well as a few alums participated in the festivities as well, including long-running show co-chairs Tina Pflaster (Montana ’13) and Laura Pflaster (Madison ’14, Alec ’11) and retired Spanish Teacher Ina Gurman.

As part of the Sunday afternoon event, approximately 50 students, teachers and administrators, including Head of School Dr. Griffith, took to the stage to entertain the crowd and model fashions from local boutiques and designers. Four Ranney lifers, all graduating this coming May, had a special walk down the runway with their parents, including: Nishan Bindra with his father Surinder Bindra, Francesca Fischer with her father Scott Fischer, Elizabeth Roberts with her father and Ranney alum Doug Roberts ’79, and Alexandra Shay with her father Tony Shay.

RSPA Fashion Show Chairwoman Amy Shay (Ashleigh ’13, Alexandra ’15) said that being involved in the parents’ association “has been a labor of love. I was able to connect with my children and their school in a very special way and become friends with some pretty wonderful people.” Shay previously served as president of RSPA.

Current RSPA Co-Presidents Kathy Dodge and Tom Gavin thanked the Ranney community members who “channeled their inner divas” to model in service to the school and who generously donated items and services to the auction. All proceeds from the Chance Auction will go toward faculty professional development. Ranney
Panthers who were unable to attend the event can shop at the Rumson China and Glass store on Saturday, December 13, and 20% of the day’s proceeds will be donated to RSPA.

2014-2015 Rock & Shop the Runway committee members included:
Amy Shay (Chairwoman), Cathy Abboud, Jennifer Andiorio, Nina Batson, Jackie Berliner, Barbara Brand, Pamela Faison Browne, Joni Charles, Arzu Chu, John Crilly, Susan Cranley, Cathleen Cuciniello, Kathy Dodge, Jennifer Edwards, Allana Egol, Cami Fabricant, Tom Gavin, Trish Gioggia, Nancy Harley, Donna Mitchell-Iglesia, Mimi Keenan, Sunny Lo, Lorretta Mannion, Neveen Mullally, Tracy Mutchiga (Director of Parent Relations & Parent Giving), Laura Pflaster, Trish Propst, Nancy Roberts, Jamie Stavola, Liz Tolchin, Carrie-Lynn Whitman and Desiree Zaslow.

RSPA also recently completed its annual Rockin’ Angels clothing and accessories drive. Led by Cameron Cranley ’16 and Sydney Harley ’17, this year’s community service event was carried out in partnership with Family and Children’s Services of Monmouth County to benefit those in need locally.
