Lower & Middle School Mathletes Win at Local Meet

Math Olympiad students won the third-place trophy and several individual awards at a recent competition.
Congratulations to the Ranney Math Olympiad Team, which won the third-place trophy as well as several individual awards during a Far Hills Country Day School Math League meet on December 9, 2014. The team, advised by Math Teacher Jane Guadagno, includes students in grades 4–6. Our individual winners are:

In the 4th grade:
• Leanid Boika (Holmdel) – 4th place and qualification for the state competition

In the 6th grade:
• Hubert Wang (Holmdel) – 1st place
• Evan Woska (Marlboro) – 2nd place
• Morgan Rice (Fair Haven) – 3rd place
• Sam Alston (Wall) – 4th place
• Aidan Oster (Red Bank) – 7th place
• Jaren Nawy (Colts Neck) – 8th place

These sixth-graders also qualified for the upcoming state competition:
• Fatima Ahmad (Brick)
• Gina Hanna (Eatontown)
• Myron Kharkover (Englishtown)
• Jaren Nawy
• Aidan Oster (Red Bank)
• Ava Poupard (Tinton Falls)
• Maria Ryan (Marlboro)
• Ben Sullens (Shrewsbury)

The team's original qualifiers, some of whom qualified for a second time on December 9, include:
• 5th grade – Oscar Chu (Holmdel) and Matthew Raccuia (Farmingdale)
• 6th grade – Sam Alston, Noah D’Andrea (Brielle), Samantha Jackman (Freehold), Elena Raccuia (Farmingdale), Morgan Rice, Brooke Schmelz (Monmouth Beach), Hubert Wang, Evan Woska and Megan Yerrabelli (Freehold).

The state contest will be held in the spring of 2015. The team members will first compete in another regional contest at Kent Place School in March 2015.
