Ranney’s Upper School Tri-M® Music Honor Society has teamed up with musicians at Seabrook; Freshman Cellist to join group.
In an effort to establish musical bonds with the local community, Ranney’s Upper School Tri-M® Music Honor Society has teamed up with musicians at Seabrook, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Tinton Falls. Freshman cellist Allison Sobieski (Toms River) will be joining Seabrook’s “Town Square Trio” for a “Back to the Beatles” group and solo performance this Saturday, January 11, 2015. The concert is for center residents and several Tri-M students plan to attend as well.
“I’ve never done anything like this before as my previous school didn’t have opportunities like this,” said Allison, who began attending Ranney this school year. She added that she’s looking forward to performing with the group on Saturday and hopefully in the future.
The Trio discovered Allison through a photo of her playing the cello on the Ranney website. Allison began her music education at age 5 and earned fourth chair in the New Jersey All State Intermediate Orchestra as an eighth-grader. She has participated in summer programs and master classes as a soloist and chamber musician, and is a member of Ranney’s Upper School Orchestra. The Trio includes Seabrook residents Dick Barrett (recorder), Polly Schoening (recorder) and Fran Forsythe (piano/percussion).
“We hope this collaboration will grow into more combined performances at Seabrook as well as on campus,” said All-Division Orchestra Director Dr. Dorothy Sobieski, who will be accompanying Saturday’s event on the piano.
