Faculty and Student Artists Debut Community as a Canvas Drawings

Costumed Figure Drawing/Painting Sessions for the entire community will be a regular feature of the Visual Arts Department beginning April 14.
On March 17, Middle and Upper School students and faculty gathered in the Ranney Art Building to draw from a costumed model. The self-selected group of artists were of all ages and experience levels and included faculty from not just the Art Department but also from the History, Music and Science departments.

For example, Dr. Noel Delgado, chair of the History Department, volunteered to pose for the occasion in his Royal Blue & Gold custom-made Elizabethan Prince costume, holding a pose for up to 20 minutes at a time. Additional individuals bringing their enthusiasm, curiosity and creative spirit to the event included Physics & Astronomy teacher Matthew D’Amato, Music & Choral teacher Lilly Torrente, Caitlin Mullally ’15, Max Chalnick ’17, Margaret Sagui ’16, Sophie Wiener '16 and Ava Atanacio ’18.

After this successful debut, costumed Figure Drawing/Painting Sessions will be a regular feature of the Visual Arts Department at Ranney as part of its Community as a Canvas initiative. Sessions will take place every Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. beginning April 14. No experience is necessary to participate and all members of the Ranney community are welcome: students, staff, faculty, parents, grandparents and friends. Please email Visual Arts Teacher Pamela Shipley at pshipley@ranneyschool.org to reserve your easel and/or to volunteer as a costume model.
