Robotics Teams Make it to Finals at US Open; World Competition Next

Two students earned the coveted programming award at the VEX Create US Open - and a top world score.
Two of the six Ranney teams, Team A and Team B, that participated in the 2015 VEX Create US Open Competition April 8-9, 2015, in Omaha made it all the way to the final rounds. These teams include Brandon Gioggia ’16, Coleen Ross ’15, Ava Papetti ‘15, Raymond Moser ’15, Amy Winkler ’15 and Chris Glenn ’18.

Although the teams lost in the quarter-finals, Raymond Moser ‘15 and Chris Glenn ‘18 won the coveted Programming Skills Award and earned the highest score in the world to date in programming skills in their competition. Their team competed in a special event using robots made up of 3-D printed parts, arduinos and other unique features.

Our B team, led by Brandon Gioggia, finished the qualifying rounds in third place, one of only three teams to go undefeated during qualifying rounds. Brandon’s team advanced through what are called the “sweet 16” round and the “elite 8” round before losing in the “final 4” round.

“Please congratulate all our students when you see them for their hard work, dedication and all-around wonderfulness,” said Robotics Advisor Chiara Shah. “I am so proud that these students are going to someday be ‘building’ our future.”
