Kayla McCarthy ’15 Signs with D-I Equestrian Team

Senior Kayla McCarthy will attend TCU next fall as part of their Division I equestrian team.
Senior Kayla McCarthy of Manasquan signed with Texas Christian University’s Division I Equestrian program on April 15, 2015. She has received a four-year scholarship and is thrilled to be attending the school in Fort Worth, Texas, next fall to be a part of their equestrian team, which is ranked among the top 12 programs in the country.

Kayla fell in love with horses at age 3 and by age 5, was already competing. Today, she rides as a hunter/jumper and trains with Stonehenge Stables in Colts Neck under head trainer Max Amaya. She is pictured at her signing with trainers Tiffany Jastram and Aurelia Tansey, her mother - Ranney Visual Arts teacher Ms. Madeleine McCarthy, her Ranney advisor Ms. Kate Greenberg and college advisor Ms. Myra Simpson, the Head of Upper School Mr. Paul Zanowski and Head of School Dr. John W. Griffith.

Kayla is a member of Ranney School’s Equestrian Club which brings together students with a love for horses to volunteer their time at and fundraise for local therapeutic riding programs. At TCU, she plans to major in biology and hopes to pursue a career as an equine veterinarian. “Ranney has allowed for my academic schedule to be flexible so that I am able to ride as much as I do,” says Kayla. “Some weeks can be busier than others, but on average I ride 4 horses a day. When I heard I was recruited to be on the TCU Equestrian Team, I was very excited because being on a Division I team has been one of my goals for the past four years. I love the school and I am excited to be able to be a part of the team!”
