Eighth-Grader Jacob Egol (Holmdel), sophomore Evan Schultz (Colts Neck) and senior Sabrina Park (Colts Neck) have all been accepted into state-level chorus and orchestras this year. Specifically, Jacob has been accepted into the Intermediate All-State Orchestra, Evan into the New Jersey All State Chorus and Sabrina into the High School All-State Orchestra, after their successful auditions.
Evan, along with 211 high school mezzo sopranos from around the state, auditioned in front of a panel of judges. “She was required to perform a series of scales, sight-sing a new vocal selection and perform her voice part in a vocal quartet—it is evident that Evan did extremely well,” says Choral Instructor and Music Teacher Mrs. Lillianne Torrente. With high scores in all of these categories, Evan ranked 16th out of the 212 students auditioning for a coveted spot in this honors chorus. “I'm confident that Evan will represent Ranney School and our vocal program well and with pride and look forward to hearing the All State Chorus in concert next year,” she added.
Evan has lent her voice to numerous Ranney School choral concerts, Coffee Houses and special events as well as dramatic musical productions, including
The Threepenny Opera and
Beauty and the Beast. Evan, along with Noah Goldstein ’14 and George Timmins ’15 (Old Bridge), also appeared in the 52nd Annual All-Shore Chorus Concert in 2014. All Shore Chorus includes students from Monmouth and Ocean Counties. (see back

In addition to rehearsing and performing with their respective state orchestras every week, both Jacob, a cellist, and Sabrina, a violinist, can also be seen regularly on the RSPA Panther Hall stage as members of the Ranney School orchestras. Jacob is the first cellist from Ranney to be accepted into the All State Orchestra, earning a position as ninth chair. He played a solo at the Middle School Winter Concert and is a member of Ranney’s Select Chamber Orchestra. Jacob is also member of the Jr. Tri-M Music Honor Society and recently placed 8th in the state of New Jersey on the National Spanish Exam. “This is a tremendous achievement for Jacob, his first try for All State Orchestra, and a very noteworthy result,” said All-Division Orchestra Director Dr. Dorothy Sobieski.
Sabrina is a first violinist in the Ranney Advanced Orchestra. She has previously played for the Central Regional State Orchestra but this is her first year in the All-State Orchestra. She auditioned with 82 other eligible high school violinists and earned placement in the first violin section in the spring of 2014. Sabrina takes time to mentor younger string players in the Lower and Middle Orchestra and also serves on the school’s Shore Conference winning Varsity Tennis Team. She will have a senior solo at the May 21 Ranney All-Division Orchestra Concert and plans to attend Northwestern University in the fall of 2015. “I am very proud of Sabrina’s accomplishment…. It is truly a privilege to have had her in Ranney School Orchestra program since Middle School,” said Dr. Sobieski.
