Upper and Middle School World Language students have received national recognition for their excellent performance on the National French and National Spanish exams again in 2015. These exams represent the largest language exams administered to students across the country in grades 6-12
Upper School Results
In the French exam, called Le Grand Concours, Junior Tessa Payer placed first in the New Jersey-AATF Chapter and ranked third at the national level! Tessa’s performance on the exam falls in the 95th percentile and she received a platinum medal. As a result, she is eligible for the French Embassy Academic Prize, which includes a two-week trip to France.
Several other students taking Ranney Honors French III, IV, V or AP French classes, earned very high rankings on the French exam. Gillian Ross ’17, who placed third in the NJ-AATF Chapter and ranked fifth at the national level, earning a gold medal. Both Rachel Staats ’16 and Elizabeth Rennie ’16 placed seventh, respectively, on the AATF Chapter and ranked 11th and 8th nationally, earning gold medals. Both James Geraghty ’16 and Nelson Chan ’16 placed eighth in the AATF Chapter and ranked 13th nationally, earning silver medals.
Additional top scorers include Timothy Spicer ’16, Cassandra Kalinowski ’15, Christine Raso ’16, Karl Brand ’16, Caroline Cuskley ’17 and Elizabeth Roberts ’15. Forty additional students participating in the exam scored in the 50th percentile and will receive a Certificat de Reussite.
On the National Spanish Exam, sophomores Anjali Mann and Gregory Marx placed in the 80
th and 91
st national percentile, respectively, and earned a
bronce and
plata medal. These students participate in Ranney Honors Spanish III, IV or V classes. Honors Awards were given to those students who earned between the 74th and 50th percentile, including: Leigh Brandt ’17, Joseph Mahoney ‘17, Isabelle Heckler ‘16, Jonathan Kelly ‘16, Max Khegay ‘16, Sarah Klein ‘16, Michelle Krameisen ‘16, Nikita Mikkilineni ‘16, Carla Papetti ‘16, Rachel Patel ‘16, Audra Smires ’16, Alexis Auletta ‘15, Alexandra Natsis ‘15, Ava Papetti ‘15, Carl Rivera ‘15 and Amy Winkler ’15.
Middle School Results
In the Middle School, eighth-grade Spanish students earned four silver medals, three bronze medals and 17 Honorable Mentions. Students Fabio Tessioreand Jacob Egol ranked 7th and 8th, respectively in the state of New Jersey. Below is the full eighth-grade list:

Approximately 20 eighth-graders also took the National French Exam and eight of them placed within the top 15 national ranks. Eight additional students received honorable mention. Olivia Pasquale earned a gold medal and the Lauréat National Certificate for ranking fifth in the nation as well as in New Jersey. Ethan Gavin earned a silver medal and the Lauréat National Certificate for placing 10th in the nation as well as in New Jersey. The following students earned a bronze medal and the Lauréat National Certificate for their excellent achievement on the exam on the national and state level: Sathya Edamadaka (11th), Sophia Salvador (12th), Greyson Kellner (13th), Shana Fitzmaurice (13th), Mia Glass (14th) and Taylor Rice (14th). The eight students who will receive honorable mention certificates are: Harry Herman (15th), Armani Rodriguez (16th), Giana Peppas, Priyanka Prasad and Julia Wolf (all ranked 17th), and Isabella DelNegro, Katherine Geraghty and Mason Kitchens (all ranked 22nd).
Lower School
In the Lower School, fifth-grade French students also participated in a "Le Grand Concours" exam. Fifth-graders Lily Egol and Madison Catanese placed sixth and eighth at the national level, respectively. Both will be awarded a silver medal and a certificat d'honneue. Fifth-grader Cynthia Clark placed 11th and will receive a certificate for honorable mention. Congratulations to all!
