Ranney Musicians Earn Top Festival Awards
The Middle School Band, Chorus and Orchestra won several first place and overall ensemble awards at the 2015 Music in the Parks Festival.
The Ranney Middle School Band, Chorus and Orchestra had a very successful day at the 2015 Music in the Parks Festival on May 22, 2015 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Students participate in this festival every year. Each group had the opportunity to play their selections for a group of judges. “Students were poised, confident and proud to be representing their school at the festival this year,” said Middle School Music Teacher and Chorus Director Lillianne Torrente. Also leading Ranney’s musical ensembles were Mr. John Propper (Band) and Dr. Dorothy Sobieski (Orchestra).
Ranney students earned the following festival participation awards:
MS Band – Good Rating, 2nd Place
MS Concert Chorus – Excellent Rating, 1st Place
MS Select Chorus – Superior Rating, 1st Place
MS Orchestra – Superior Rating, 1st Place
Special ensemble awards:
MS Concert Chorus – Overall Choir in the Junior High/Middle School category
MS Orchestra – Overall Orchestra in the Junior High/Middle School category
Individual awards:
Leah Nawy ’19 – Overall Vocalist in the Junior High/Middle School category
After the festival portion of the day, students, faculty and parent chaperones celebrated with students from other participating schools at Dorney Park in nearby Allentown, PA. “The students are already discussing next year’s event while Ranney’s ensemble directors are looking at new ways to make this experience even more meaningful for the students and the music program,” said Mrs. Torrente.
