Crilly Heads to Meet of Champions

Junior Kate Crilly landed a school record of 1:07.48 in the 400 hurdles at the NJSIAA Non-Public B Group Championship.
Junior Kate Crilly of Shrewsbury is competing at the New Jersey Meet of Champions this week (June 3) at South Plainfield’s Jost Field. Kate landed a school record of 1:07.48 in the 400 hurdles at the May 29 NJSIAA Non-Public B Group Championship at Egg Harbor, finishing 3rd overall, as part of the Ranney Varsity Girls’ Track & Field Team. The team, which also includes senior Brooke Fromkin, junior Athena Dookie and freshmen Emily Sallustio, Laura Lehrfeld and Katie Juhase, placed 6th out of nine larger teams. Kate joins Ranney’s elite group of Meet of Champions qualifiers: Molly Wilgucki ‘09 in the long jump, Stephen D'Onofiro '10 in the high jump, Anike Oladeji ‘12 in the 100 and 200, and Brooke Fromkin ‘15 in the 100.  Ranney School has been a member of the NJSIAA since 2008, says Head Coach Nancy B. King.

Kate is also a leader in the pool. Along with her Varsity Swim Team members, she represented Ranney at the Monmouth County Championship this past season, placing 12th in the 200 freestyle and 8th in the 100 freestyle. This meet qualified her for the Shore Conference Championship where she placed 11th in the 100 freestyle and 23rd in the 200 freestyle. Kate also swims for the Monmouth Barracudas, where she qualified for the Junior Olympics and Sectionals.

Kate was recently inducted into Ranney School’s National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society chapters. In her free time, she gives private swim lessons to children and volunteers with her Barracuda teammates to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.

This summer, Kate will be attending a swim camp at University of Notre Dame as well as a two week pre-college course as part of the Notre Dame Summer Scholars program on Entrepreneurship, Problem Solving and Social Change.
