The Music Department is about to kick off its winter concert series with each division’s band, chorus and orchestra performing on the Panther Hall stage over the next several weeks. Helping to launch this season of music is alumna Christa Dalmazio, Class of 2012, as the featured soloist of the Upper School Orchestra concert on December 4.
Christa will be performing a Soprano Aria, Rejoice Greatly from Handel'sMessiah. Christa is a fourth-year Bachelor of Music candidate under the tutelage of Catherine Malfitano. Her operatic performances at the Manhattan School of Music have included the role of Norina in “Signorina, in tanta fretta ... Via, caro sposino” from Don Pasquale, Joanna in scenes from Sweeney Todd, and Adele in her aria “Mein Herr Marquis” from Die Fledermaus. Christa served as the soprano soloist in Fauré’s Requiem and a soloist in Michael Haydn’s St. Leopold Mass. She has toured as a choral soloist in France and Canada with the New Jersey Concordia Chorale and currently sings as a soprano at Christ Church in New York City. In addition to singing, Christa plays the piano, viola and lever harp, and enjoys accompanying. In the spring, she will be singing the role of Philomèle in Le roi l’a dit, by Delibes at the Manhattan School of Music.
“I am very excited to welcome Christa back to Ranney,” says All-Division Orchestra Director Dr. Dorothy Sobieski. “She was the first student of mine in the Upper School, with whom our Upper School Orchestra began four years ago. An accomplished soprano and a senior at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, Christa has been already enjoying a successful career in music performance.”
Ranney’s winter concerts will take place at 7 p.m. in Panther Hall as follows:
- December 4 Upper School
- December 11 Middle School
- January 14 Lower School
Each concert will feature the division’s band, chorus and orchestra.
