From Blueprints to Roller Coasters

Eighth-graders explored engineering and design thinking with this STEAM project.
Eighth-graders created model roller coasters using the design process. Starting with a blueprint that they created, students built a physical model using simple craft and recycle supplies. Each group member had an assigned task in the project and worked as a team. All models were tested during science class and were successful in maneuvering a marble through the track to land in the cup.

“This annual STEAM project is a favorite among the eighth-grade physical science class and reflects students’ knowledge on force and motion as well as their creativity,” says Middle School Science Teacher Betty Williams.
