Student Poets to be Published in Creative Anthology

The following Upper School students have had their poetry selected for publication in Creative Communications' Spring 2016 Poetry Anthology. "It takes a lot of courage to submit one's work to a public contest," says English Teacher Leslie Patient. "We are so proud of these students." Their works will be bound in the anthology and available the Paulus Library upon publication.

Summer Falls to Winter
I watch your beautiful opulent green leaves every morning
You, my muse, filled my heart with happiness
In your benevolence you gave a place for the bird to sing
You made me smile every day

But one day you decided to leave
Alienating me, You slowly turned your back on me
I watched your beauty turn to a deep brown
You became sick and frail, I touched your leaves
But they disintegrated in my palm leaving me bereft

Just as the weather became colder you became colder
I looked to you for comfort but you where impervious to my longings
Instead you cover yourself with a blanket of ice

I lay beside you stolidly
Comforting you but still your leaves fell and your demise came
When the wind came you let it take you
All your leaves, Your roots, Your bones
Everything.
When the snow dissipated I was left to clean up your leaves.
