Basketball: Varsity Panthers Win First Round of States

Bring your school spirit to the varsity tournament games as Ranney athletics make history. Go Panthers!
Our Varsity Boys’ Basketball team made its way to the Shore Conference Tournament for the first time in Ranney athletic history this season! On February 16, the Panthers took on Brick Township on Ranney's Tinton Falls campus, winning the game 75-51. Read APP's coverage of the game here. Ranney then hosted Freehold Twp High School in game 2 on February 18, winning 51-48.

They moved on to the tournament quarterfinals against rival Mater Dei on February 21, taking place in a packed arena at Brookdale Community College. S
eeded 8 in the quarterfinals, the Panthers put up a great fight against Mater Dei, seeded 1, ending with a score of 39-47.

Next up for the Panthers was the NJSIAA Non-Public B state tournament game against St. Rose on March 1, with Ranney winning 74 to 45. See related article. The team played its second state playoff game March 3rd on campus against Roselle Catholic. The final score of the game was Ranney 44, Roselle 69. Overall the team ended the season 22-4.

Congratulations to all of our team members and to Coach Tahj Holden on their entrance into the SCT and State tournaments and their well-fought games. 
 
“The success that the team is having this year is fantastic,” said Director of Athletics Bobby Malone going into the Shore Conference tournament. “The school spirit and community-wide excitement that has been created is evident all across our campus. The entire team has worked hard and remained focused throughout the regular season—now, it’s time to really step up and make a name for ourselves in the conference!”
