Riebesell & Batista Join iTheatrics Broadway Academy for 2nd Year
The Ranney music students will participate in the iTheatrics summer academy production of Pippin Jr.
Ranney’s Music Department congratulates Samantha Riebesell '19 and Olivia Batista '21 who were accepted into the iTheatrics Summer Broadway Academy for the second year in a row!
Olivia auditioned in New York City on March 5, at the iTheatrics headquarters along with several hundred other young performers from around the metropolitan area.
Busy rehearsing for the Upper School musical Carousel, Samantha submitted her audition by video, as did hundreds of other students from around the country. Both girls were accepted and will take their place among the student cast of Pippin Jr.
Each summer iTheatrics (the creators of the Broadway Junior series) pilots brand new adaptations in partnership with major licensing houses, such as Music Theatre International, Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc., Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Samuel French. Students accepted into the Broadway Academy spend one to two weeks working with professional theater artists on these adaptations. The culmination is a staged reading for invited families, educators, the authors of the show and representatives from the licensing houses, who review the results and revise show materials accordingly - all for the purpose of making these new adaptations available to schools and community theatre groups.
Olivia and Samantha will attend the academy during the week of August 1st. Past participants from Ranney School include Tessa Payer '16 and Carmine Mastrokostas '18 (an iTheatrics "All Star").
