Sailing Team Members Launch Spring Season with First-Place Finish

(This story has been updated)

Ten NJISA high schools making up 14 sailing teams started off the spring 2016 high school sailing season in mid-March at the Toms River Yacht Club. Skies were clear with an easterly breeze of 8-10 mph, allowing for a three afternoon races in each of the A & B Divisions.

Congratulations to the Ranney Panthers on their 19-point first-place honors during these races. The Southern Regional Rams came in second with 21 points and the CBA Colts came in third with 27 points.

In early May, 10 NJISA high schools, making up 13 sailing teams, competed in the fourth of the NJISA Spring Fleet Race Series regattas. Despite a weather system passing over the region, two W4 and W3 races were run in each division for a total of 8 races. While the rain eventually stopped, the sun was out for a few brief moments, and the breeze built to include gusts to 16 mph, providing challenges to the sailors with gusty and shifty conditions.

The Christian Brothers Colts ended the event on top with a total of 22 points, with the Ranney Panthers right behind in second place with 24 points.  The Southern Regional Rams rounded out the top three with 35 points for the afternoon, with the Toms River North Mariners one point behind them in fourth.
