Ranney Middle & Upper School French Language students achieved top ranks across the state and the country in the 2016 Le Grand Concours (National French Contest). The national competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) evaluates students’ written, oral and listening comprehension skills in the language. More than 85,000 students across the U.S. competed in the event – Ranney students won seven gold medals, eight silver medals and four bronze medals with two students ranking number 1st in the New Jersey chapter. Middle School
In the Middle School, French language students earned high honors as well, including four Top-10 rankings in the state. Eighth-graders Charlotte Clark ranked #2 (Gold) in New Jersey, Roxanne Imani ranked #4 (Silver) in the state, Nelly Fadil ranked #6 (Bronze) in the state and Alex Senderov ranked #7 (Bronze) in the state. Honorable mentions were awarded to Jacqueline Baron, Tara Crilly, Sarah Farber, Thomas Jensen, Olivia Knoop, Mason Leong and Uzay Takil.
Of the eighth-grade students electing to take the exam, 69% earned national recognition for their outstanding achievements in French studies.
“Our French curriculum is based on learning the language and Francophones through an enriching educational experience promoting an awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity,” says French Teacher Isabelle Daly. “Our outcome-oriented approach provides a framework to monitor students’ progress and achievement in learning the French language as a global life skill.”
