Varsity Track & Field Heading to Shore Conference Championships

Ranney Varsity Track & Field records continued to fall at Day 1 of the Monmouth County Championships, held May 11 at Holmdel High School, says Coach King. Liam Fitzmaurice '17 whacked 9 seconds off his school record in the 1600, finishing in 4:43.56 in mid-pack. Shana Fitzmaurice '19 took another 5 seconds off her time in the girls 1600, running a 5:33.64 for 34th place, finishing in the top third of runners. Kate Crilly '16 had her best leap of the season in the triple jump, 31-11, to win her flight in the event.  Running a 13.6 in the 100, Kate finished in 38th place in a field of over 100 runners and 15th of 56 in triple jump.

On Day 2 of the county championship,
Shana earned a new personal record in the 800. Racing through the rain at Holmdel High School on Friday the 13th proved lucky for her as she dropped her time by 7 seconds to 2:29.7 and finished as the 7th freshman, and 36th overall, in a field of 103 runners that included 8 National Elite times.

.................

The small but mighty Ranney track team showed its mettle once again in the final dual meet of the season at Asbury Park on May 16.

Four-year track member Kate Crilly '16 took first in the 100, 200, triple jump and long jump.  Kate, who already owns school records in the 400 hurdles, 100 hurdles and triple jump, added the 100 dash to her collection, crossing the line in 12.2. The previous record of 12.5 was held by Anike Oladeji '12, who ran at the Meet of Champions as a senior and  just concluded her four-year running career at American University. Long jumping for the first time in her varsity career, Kate leaped to within 4 inches of the school record, still held by Molly Wilgucki '09, who competed in the event at the Meet of Champions as a senior.

Team Fitzmaurice continued its winning streak as well with Liam '17 and Shana '19 winning both the 1600 and the 800.

Personal records tumbled all around the track. Olukayode Oladeji '19 took first in the boys triple jump, ran a 25.3 in the 200 for a 2-second drop and a third-place title. He also took a second off his 400 time, finishing in 57.4 for second place. Alexandra Greenberg '19 took second place in the long jump with a personal record leap of 11-1, and earned personal records in the 100 and 200. Michael Zheng '18 had personal records in the 100 and 200 and tied his personal best in the long jump. Laura Lehrfeld '18 took second in the javelin and ran a personal record in the 100. Jack DeNicola '17 took second in the javelin with a toss just an inch short of a personal record and tied his best time in the 100.

Shana, Kate and Liam will head to the Shore Conference Championship on May 21 at Central Regional High School.  Michael Zheng '18 and Kayode Oladeji '18 head to the Monmouth County Frosh/Soph Boys Championships at Matawan on May 18. The entire team is primed for Prep B States, on May 23.
