“These exams are excellent benchmarks that support our curricular work from Age 3 through Grade 12,” says World Languages Department Chair Margharita Reiter. “We are proud to offer French, Mandarin and Spanish from Early Childhood through 12th grade, providing our students with many opportunities to learn, improve, master and use their languages on a daily basis. Our teachers teach by example, modeling the language throughout every class period and providing regular opportunities for teacher-to-student and student-to-student dialogue. As our students progress through their studies of the second language—which they elect in second grade after several years of introductions to all three languages—their skills show great improvement and they continue to move on to higher levels, all the way to Honors and Advanced Placement language classes in the Upper School. Through professional development, our language teachers are continually improving their strategies in the presentation of new material and working to prepare our students to become global citizens through their study of a second language.”
