Community Gathers for Multicultural Fest

The entire school community gathered on May 26, 2016, for a Multicultural Festival. Led by the student Diversity Club, parents and faculty members, the event featured a parade of more than 25 nations, cultural dances and songs, and display tables with objects and food tastings from various countries.

Countries featured included: Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Montenegro and Serbia, Nigeria, New Zealand, Panama, The Philippines, Poland, Russia, Scotland, Slovakia, Trinidad and the United States. Students, teachers and families proudly shared their heritage in these countries throughout the afternoon.

“It was heartwarming to see our multicultural village come together to celebrate our cultural diversity, in a manner that emphasized that though we are many, we are one Ranney family,” said faculty member Mrs. Nadine Maxwell-Henry, who spearheaded the event. “It is hoped that we will use our new discoveries about the various cultural identities at Ranney to enhance our continued journey together.”

Added Anisha Gupta ’18, incoming Diversity Club Co-President, “Diversity Club was amazed by the enthusiasm shown from the students in celebrating all of the diverse cultures in the Ranney community. It was a great event and we are all looking forward to next year!”
