Parents, faculty, and student peers are always blown away by the incredible voices, instrumentation, and overall musicianship of our student community—don’t miss out on these nights of individual and group performances (plus, occasional surprise faculty performances)! Please find details about sign-ups below.
Lower School Students: All fifth-grade students are welcome to perform their act for approval after school on Monday, October 17 from 3:30-5pm in Mrs. Geene’s general music classroom (ECEC 208). Examples of performances include: instrument solo, singing solo, instrument group, singing group, poetry reading, monologue reading, or dance. If you need an accompaniment, please bring your piano accompaniment music or digital accompaniment track with you. Mrs. Geene, Dr. Sobieski, and Mr. Propper will work with interested students to prepare for the Coffee House. Students do not need to wear school dress code for this performance; they may wear jeans or casual clothing. The performance material and dress must be appropriate for a Lower School audience. Please see Mrs. Geene to submit an online permission slip by October 14.
Middle School & Upper School Students: Sign-up sheets will be posted two weeks prior to the designated Coffee House. Middle Schoolers may sign up on the Performing Arts Call Board, located in the stairwell of the GPA as you go up toward Mr. Doyle’s classroom. Upper Schoolers will receive a Google Doc sheet from the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Acts may include musical group or solo performances, original poetry readings, short scenes, or dance. The Performing Arts Department encourages students to work together to provide accompaniment for each other, using recordings/playback if necessary, or to ask faculty to accompany. Sign-ups must be specific in selections, type of performance, and performers. Students are responsible for the mastery of their material and need to be well rehearsed. School time is not allotted for Coffee House rehearsal, except for a brief rehearsal the day before to work with the technical aspects needed.
The Lower School holds one Coffee House per year, while the Middle & Upper divisions have one in the fall and another in the late winter/early spring.
