Upper School Robotics Goes 4-0 with Latest VEX Tournament Win

Nearly 50 teams from 14 high schools and clubs across New Jersey came to Ranney’s Tinton Falls campus Saturday, January 7, 2017—despite the snowy weather—to compete in a VEX Robotics competition. Two Ranney robots, led by Teams A and J, won the event title, while a third Ranney robot, Team M, came in 2nd place. The final battle rounds therefore culminated in a Ranney versus Ranney show.

Ranney Upper School Robotics now holds a 4-0 record for the 2016-17 competitive robotics season, the team’s best record yet. Team J also won the Skills Champion award on January 7.

Team A includes:
Chris Glenn (Captain)
Chip Johnson
Ben Iglesia
Kayla Shah (Class of 2022)

Team J includes:
Dana Schioppo (Co-Captain)
Will Zheng (Co-Captain)
Mike Zheng
Jack DeNicola

Team M includes:
Rylan Foy (Captain)
Kevin Yu
Connie Hall

Ranney Robotics, and advisor Chiara Shah, thank the 30 Upper School students and parents, as well as our Operations Team, who helped to support the event—even as snow was accumulating throughout the day—through concession donations, set up and break down, match scoring, and refereeing.  Two Ranney Robotics alums, Vasilios Nicholas ’16 and Brandon Gioggia ’16, attended as well, interviewing more than 40 teams as judges. It was truly a community show!
