Science Olympiad Teams Medal in Four Events at Regionals
Ranney’s Middle and Upper School Science Olympiad teams placed in four events at the January 10 regional competition, held at Union County College. Seventh-grader Matt Raccuia and sixth-grader Ankush Govil, 2 of the 19 members on the Middle School team, placed 5th in the "Wright Stuff" challenge (view their demo), while our 22-member Upper School team placed in the top 5 in three different events: "Picture This," "Write It, Do It," and "Microbe Mission."
Both teams earned 2nd place medals at last year’s 2016 regional competition. The national Science Olympiad program builds upon science education and teamwork by challenging students to engage in rigorous, standards-based challenges. View the tower-weight demo.

This year, Middle Schoolers participating in Science Olympiad were able to meet and practice daily throughout the first semester thanks to a new shift in the division’s schedule. The teams are coached by faculty members Betty Williams, Madeleine McCarthy, Nachum Serota, and Matthew D’Amato.
