Panthers Keep the Score Tight in Mater Dei Rematch

The Ranney Varsity Boys’ Basketball team was ranked #1 as they entered the Class B Central rematch against Mater Dei Prep on February 6 – the Panthers had defeated the Shore Conference Champions January 12, 58-56, on Mater Dei’s turf. Although they lost the rematch, 76-72 Mater Dei, the Panthers didn’t go quietly, wrote APP’s Sherlon Christie (see the full report and video highlights)

“Sophomore forward Scottie Lewis scored six of his 23 points in the third quarter and Alex Klatsky added six of his eight points in that quarter,” states the article. “With 1:58 left in the fourth quarter, Mater Dei Prep led 67-59… Ranney School whittled away at the lead slowly to make it 73-70 with 28.7 seconds left as sophomore guard Bryan Antoine completed a four-point play.”

Added APP’s Steve Edelson, “The atmosphere was frenetic… with the standing-room-only crowd erupting when the home team made runs in the third and fourth quarter, cutting the lead down to three points with 20 seconds to play.” Read the full story.

The home game was completely sold out, with fans entering the Ranney School Gerhard Pavilion for Athletics (GPA) more than 90 minutes ahead of tip-off. Next up,
