Two Ranney Robotics Teams Win State Title
Ranney School Robotics students didn’t just compete in the New Jersey State VEX Robotics Starstruck Championship on March 4 in Cherry Hill—they took their engineering and driving skills all the way to a two-team winning alliance! This is the first time that two Ranney teams – Team A and Team M – have won the state tournament together. In addition, competing against approximately 20 other schools and groups across the state including High Tech High, Ranney’s teams won an Innovate Award (Team A) for their use of transmission to switch power and a 2nd Place Award in Skills (Team M) for driving and programming.
Team A includes: junior Christopher Glenn of Lincroft, junior Chip Johnson of Red Bank, and senior Ben Iglesia of West Allenhurst. Team M includes: junior Rylan Foy of Spring Lake and international students Jiawen (Kevin) Yu, a sophomore, and Kangqing (Connie) Hall, a junior.
Both teams, and their robots, will now compete at the VEX World Competition, taking place in Louisville, Kentucky, April 19-23. This is Ranney Robotics’ fifth year in a row attending the world championship and the second time the school has had two teams qualify for the global event.
On site at the state championship to cheer on his former peers was Ranney alum and former VEX World Robot Competitor Brandon Gioggia, Class of 2016. Brandon is now attending Northeastern University.
Ranney Robotics has earned 32 trophies this season.
