Choral Students Prepare for Concert with Help of Westminster Choir Professor

In preparation for the All-Division Choral Concert taking place May 16, Ranney Upper School Chorus students had the opportunity to work on their concert selections with Westminster Choir College faculty member Dr.  Ryan Brandau.

Dr. Brandau also serves as Director of Amor Artis - a 40-voice chamber choir and orchestra based in New York City, Artistic Director of Princeton Pro Musica -  a 100-voice symphonic chorus in Princeton, and the Monmouth Civic Chorus - a 100-voice symphonic chorus in Red Bank.

This was Dr. Brandau's second year in a row visiting the US Chorus and his timing couldn't have been better, explains Ranney Choral Director Lillianne P. Torrente. His visit coincided with the division’s annual Career Day, so Dr. Brandau also took time to share with the students his personal journey from high school vocalist/instrumentalist to accomplished choral conductor and professor. He offered advice on how current students could continue singing into college and way beyond.

After speaking, Dr. Brandau introduced some of his favorite vocal warm ups, suggested techniques to enhance the performance for several of our concert selections, and led the students toward discovering new interpretations of their choral literature.

“It was a great visit and the students all agree that we would welcome Dr. Brandau back for another visit next year,” said Mrs. Torrente. “Dr. Brandau has already agreed!”
