Chorus Earns Distinguished Accolades at NJ Teen Arts Festival

Upper School Chorus members represented Ranney at the 2017 New Jersey Teen Arts Festival on May 31 at Ocean County College. Our students performed among hundreds of students from high schools throughout the state.

“The purpose of the festival was to showcase student talent, make new friends, experience new art forms, and share joy in celebrating Arts in Education across New Jersey as an all-inclusive community,” explained Choral Director Lillianne Torrente. ”The day included our showcase performance, art displays, various professional performances, a selection of workshops for students and teachers, and a college fair.”

After morning workshops and special performances, the Ranney Chorus performed for Broadway veteran, Mr. Ron Sharpe (Executive Producer of the Broadway musical A Tale of Two Cities and whose credits include Jean Valjean & Marius in Les Miserables) and Mr. Paul Chalakani (Performing Arts Program Chair & Artistic/Producing Director-OCC Repertory Theatre Company.)  Their comments included "...very tight performance, great energy, great vocal balance - especially the harmony" and  "tone and vocal quality were the best of the day!"

“I was extremely proud of the group,” said Mrs. Torrente. “They received the highest rating of Distinguished in six out of nine performance categories and a personal invite to future open auditions.”

In addition, soloists Carmine Mastrokostas ’18 and Taylor Zenner ‘17 were entered into the distinguished Scholarship Category. Winners will be announced in early June.

Shout-out to our seniors who returned after graduation to participate in the festival: Taylor, along with Lucy McGinty and Evan Schultz.
