Matthew Chang Named USA Swimming Scholastic All-American
Rising senior Matthew Chang of Holmdel has been selected for this year’s USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team. The award recognizes the nation’s top student athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. Matthew earned this coveted distinction by achieving an individual Winter Juniors qualifying time in the 50-meter freestyle and attaining standards of academic success, including a minimum GPA of 3.5.
Earlier in August, Matthew competed at the 2017 YMCA Long Course National Swim Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he qualified for seven events. He placed 9th overall in the 50-meter Freestyle with a personal best of 24.11 seconds. Matthew also placed 4th in the 200-meter medley relay and anchored for his team in the 200- and 400-meter free relays, finishing 5th and 6th overall, respectively.
For the past two years, Matthew has organized a Swim Across America fundraiser on Ranney's campus to benefit the fight against cancer. In honor of his grandmother, who battled gallbladder cancer, his efforts have raised more than $7,500 for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center research. Read more.
