Coach Gray Promoted to Associate Head for Varsity Boys' Soccer

Ranney’s Boys’ Varsity Soccer Assistant Coach Donny Gray has been promoted to Associate Head Coach.

Gray was a 4-year varsity starter at Toms River High School South, serving on the All Shore and State First Team, before marking his mark as a standout at Rutgers University. There, he was a 3-year starter and played in two NCAA Tournaments, making the Sweet 16 both times. After college, Gray served as a volunteer assistant at Rutgers and played professionally for the New Jersey Ironmen in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Says Head Coach Austin Reed Alvarado about the promotion of Gray: “Here at Ranney, we operate on a level of trust and team spirit which promotes a culture of competitive greatness. We emphasize among our players the accountability that comes with wearing a varsity shirt, and what it means to be a member of our process and our program.  We are tremendously lucky, and I am very lucky, to have a coach of Donny’s pedigree to work with every day. He is the type of coach and man that can lead a program anywhere in the country, and I appreciate and respect his commitment to our program.”

Alvarado, who coached the Ranney team last season, previously served as Assistant Coach for West Essex and West Orange High School's Varsity Boys' Soccer teams. He played for the University of Tampa, earning ranks in the NCAA Final Four and NCAA Sweet 16, as well as at West Orange High, where his team won the state Group IV Championship and Essex County Championship.
