Madeleine McCarthy May Bring Raku to Ranney
Ranney Middle School Art Teacher and seventh-grade dean Madeleine McCarthy had an amazing summer. During a vacation to Greece, she took part in a professional development opportunity to participate in a Raku residency, where she learned how to carry out the traditional Japanese pottery firing process. She was also voted “Master Teacher” by the leadership team at ESF Summer Camps at Ranney, where she led multiple art components.
The Master Teacher Award, an ESF tradition, recognizes Activity Specialists, Academy Specialists, or Instructional Specialists for their exceptional teaching abilities and styles. Mrs. McCarthy was recognized for consistently excelling and going above and beyond her role.
Her new Raku skills are currently on display in the Panther Hall Gallery. The
Visual Arts Department is in the process of purchasing kiln elements so that Mrs. McCarthy can provide students with the opportunity to learn and produce Raku pieces on campus. (For details, please contact
Kathleen Brown on Ranney's Development Team).
Mrs. McCarthy’s daughter, Kayla, graduated from Ranney in 2015, earning a Division I equestrian scholarship to Texas Christian University.
